>German Shipping Facility<

Post by Axion »

Well, this is my first real attempt at actually making a decent map.

Here are the basics-

It's an isolated German shipping facility in the midst of winter. There is a main complex with various rooms, a warehouse, and an underground utility housing. I have already worked out deathmatch and objective versions. In the objective version, the Allies have to infiltrate the complex and gain entrance to the main underground utuility room to destroy the main facility generator.

While my work is basically complete, I still have a few minor details that have yet to be worked out, as well as doing a final compile.

Here are some screenshots-

If I get enough feedback, I'll post some more screens later.

Looking good, though the combination of sky and lighting just doesn't look right... maybe reduce sunlight or use a lighter sky texture (gray instead of black).

yeah, a touch lighter sky would look better, but other than that looks good!

Yeah, I've been thinking about that as well. I might have to make a custom sky texture to get what I have in mind.

Alrighty, here's an update for those of you who are interested...

I've been playtesting the map with my brother and some friends, and everything seems to be good so far, with one exception- I've made the rookie mistake of making a lot of my walls too thin (doh!), so other players can see you when you lean next to them/get too close. It'll probably take me a while to fix, but I don't mind the extra effort.

The style of the map has been very fast paced, with both sides racing to get to the generator first, and then playing cat and mouse with the other. I'm toying with the idea of adding an extra objective above ground to add a little variety to the game. It would also help to even out the natural advantage the Axis team has as defenders.

FPS is decent; The lowest I've gotten is around the mid 30's, but there are some areas I'd like to improve with the use of VIS. Looks like I better start reading up on the tutorials.

If anyone wants to check the map out early, I'll put the pk3 of the beta version online for downloading.

I'll try to have it up sometime tomorrow, so you'll have to contain your excitement until then.
