aite my bad, i figured it out myself. what i did was make a brush that was a square cylinder, and fliped it so it was flat on the ground. now its 3d but w/o a top and bottom, but its a road so it'll be ok :D .

Yes, always make it looking from the top view.

I dissagree about makeing it on the top view all the time . If you make a brush a simple patch mesh on the side view it will be made up and down so you don't have to rotate it to make it stand up for makeing something like a side of a mountain or something you can always switch to the top view after . If you want to make a simple patch mesh 3D select it and then press V on the keyboard to show the vertices like you do with lod terain . The green dots move the points of the mesh and the pink dots affect the curve between the green dots . Unlike lod terain the vertices of patch meshes can move left and right as well as up and down so you can twist the mesh into what ever shape you need to make .

Yeah patch meshes are 2d but copying the mesh, overlapping the two and inverting the copied one then lowering it will add a bottom. Then use end caps to fill in the gaps between the top and the bottom. But the mountain ground is ok if its 2d since you won't see the bottom. :)
