Skinning Problem! Just wont work... HELP!

Post by KeenEye »

Posted something like this in another forum site but the forums looked DEAD!

Heya If you or anyone else can answer my question I would be very greatful.
My textures directory has all the original directories that pointed to the model im skinning. Im skinning the officer2, which would be the waffen officer, the one with the grey uniform... so my directories would be textures\models\human\germanmaps\officer2 for my .tga (If this is wrong that i used the same directory plz tell me), scripts for my .shader, and model\player for my .tik and _fps.tik . Im wondering if you are supposed to delete all the parts of the shader file besides the one for the tunic if you are only doing the tunic? I only have the .tga for the edited tunic because thats all i was going to change. Also does the name really matter for the .tik's ? because I dont have them named german_sample_blabla , but german_blabla_blabla , so does sample HAVE to be in there?(looked like you needed to put in "sample" from a TUT i followed)

Just a few things that confused me...
I could send you the skin, its noting spectacular, I just wanted to get a hang of skinning so i could do some better skins later.

Thanks, and someone please help :?: !

well, to save on the confusion, u can just make a short directory for ur tunic skin. for example, instead of the long pathname, u can actually do:

textures/models/myskin/office2.tga

then open up one of the .shaders, delete everything EXCEPT on part, and replace the "xxx" with ur own name, for example

xxx
{
qer_editorimage textures/models/myskin/office2.tga
{
map textures/models/myskin/office2.tga
rgbGen lightingSpherical
}
}

this will ensure ur .shader paths and texture paths are all correct.

moving on.... the .tik

ONLY change the "xxx"s or those that u edited, for example:

surface tunic shader DAK_officer_tunic
surface pants shader DAK_officer_pants
surface tunic_c shader DAK_officer_tunic_c

that's the original path names in Afrika Officer. Since you are changing only the tunic, u need to change

surface tunic shader DAK_officer_tunic
surface pants shader DAK_officer_pants
surface tunic_c shader DAK_officer_tunic_c

into

surface tunic shader xxx
surface pants shader DAK_officer_pants
surface tunic_c shader xxx // dont have to add a _c because their the same

normally u have to change the name after the word "shader" in any tiki, provided if u changed that texture.

now, name ur .shader to anything, making sure it wont conflict with anyother .shader. name it uniquely. place ur .shader into "scripts".

now make sure ur texture paths are correct.

finally, place ur tiki into "models/player"

Ya, i talked to a friend and i figured out im missing all the other tga's and tik's for all the other body parts, so its my understanding that you HAVE to have all the other body parts saved into your pk3 ?
