I read the ambient sounds tutorial and got myself all confused :(

OK, all I want is to have a constant sound of gunfire, explosions, etc. in the distance, and I want it heard no matter where you are in the map... its all exterior too. Can someone tell me what parts of the tutorial to read, and what to ignore, so I dont get confused

thnx

i think i can help

I think i can, I think i can, I think i can  ...OH hi !!! ok do you know how to make an scr file? ah who cares let me try to explain this the best way i can. This is the easiest way that ive figured this out.

Ok open notepad first, then type this into it

exec global/ambient.scr

Ok what youve just typed is a script to play a background sound that already exists in your mohaa game. But now you gotta pick which background you want there is lots to choose from. Here is a small list:

m1l2a
m1l2b
m1l3a
m1l3b
m1l3c
m2l1
m2l2a
m2l2b
m2l2c
m2l3
m3l2
m4l2
m5l1b
m6l1a
m6l1c

And the list goes on. Each of these are a background that is played in the game. Each one is different. You get these out of your Ambience sound file thats in one of your pk3 files(i forget which one  ) sorry lol. So what you do is in your notepad for example, i would put:

exec global/ambient.scr m6l3c

Ok now what you do is save it. Save it as "yourmapname".scr Like mine for example on the map im working on right now would look like this if i saved it: hotel.scr

Ok now what you do is when you make your pk3 file make sure you put this .scr file in the same folder as your maps. Save the pk3 file put it in main and fire her up. That should do the trick. What i did for each of those sounds i post up there is i tried each one out in the pk3 file listened to it in the game, and thats when i decide whether or not to keep it. Some people may have an easier way to do this. But for me this really is the easiest.....like i said...atleast for me. Goodluck :D :D :P :P :D :D

maybe its my noobiness but that seemed a little vague to me... :(

the sound I want to play isnt in a pak file, its in: "C:\Program Files\MOHAA\main\sound\amb_stereo\Amb_M2_SnowBattleExt.mp3"

and I want it heard at the same volume no matter where you are in the map, its all exterior.

If no one wants to explain it, you can just copy & paste what I need to know from the tutorial... only what I need to know to play the sound how I want it... the rest just confused the hell outta me

Dont get me wrong O'Niel, I appreciate your help very mcuh, you just gotta speak on a more noobier level :)

thnx guys!

uh oh

  Ok for what you want i think the best explanation is jv_map's tutorial on it. Where he explains to put trigger multiples all over your map. You said all yours was exterior so you would just label it just how jv_map has it in his tutorial. EEeeek !!! Im dont think i could explain it better than jv_map. I just showed you my little way up there because you said you wanted constant battle and gun fire sounds, and i know one of those i posted does that for a background sound, because ive tested them for my maps. The way that i have it explained up there, you dont have to add multiple triggers. It will be the same volume anywhere in the map. I have a hard time understanding things myself. Im a long way from getting it all. So much is still confusing so for me to explain it better for you, i would need to know where youre having a problem understanding and ill see if i can get a better explanation for ya

For constant background sound, you can just put:
soundtrack <musfile>
in your script. The .mus files are in pak0.pk3 in the music folder but you can also make one yourself. When you use the 'soundtrack' command, the 'normal' music will play.

For example:
soundtrack m5l2a

Will play some ambient battle sounds.

ooooohh

Is there any way I could have it play this sound?: C:\Program Files\MOHAA\main\sound\amb_stereo\Amb_M2_SnowBattleExt.mp3
Would I have to make a .mus file for that? and If so, how? (if you know a link to a tutorial that will be cool too)

Thnx

Try putting this where you said it didnt work:

exec global/ambient.scr m5l2a

Im not sure if you can put it right where you have it. What i did was i put it at the very top of my script and worked great for me. Goodluck !! :D  :D

My fault

Ya! it worked! but..... thats not really the sound im looking for.

OMG! hey I figured it out! :o  :o

I just looked at how another map did it... they just made a music file and executed it through the script file... that simple

But at first it didnt work when I tried this... then I put it into a pak3 and it worked

Now that I have this figured out I started messin with the sounds... I put "Taproot - Again and Again" to play as the soundtrack...hehe :D

Im tryin to think of some real loud songs that pump you up....hmm :?
AH! "Deftones - Headup" or "Drowning Pool - Bodies" ...anything by slipknot ....hehe this is gonna be sweet
