changing brush faces in stock maps?

first post...forgive the neophyte.

I don't do mapping or skinning...I just do minor scripting & easy to work with mods but a question came up around halloween & a friend & I got into a conversation about it (neither of us knows the answer.)

The idea came up for a halloween map with tombstones (from the hunt) used in other tdm maps (we don't run obj maps) by prespawning the objects. Not very interesting, right? But we wanted to change the faces on one side of the tombstones to include frequent visitors & admins' names (a'la the simpsons Treehouse of Horror halloween specials.) I'm sure in a custom map, this would be simplicity but the key here is to not develop a whole map just for this purpose & ideally have it so our friends & users don't have to download anything additional to see the names.

Other than pre-spawning the tombstones, I'm not really sure how to approach this...but it's the changing of the brush & in a STOCK map with no additional download that has me curious. Can it be done & visible on a purely server side change?

I was just curious. Like I said this was a halloween idea...but we've had several discussions since then & put out a bunch of hypotheticals. I've tried looking on several forums but haven't run across anything on point. I just figured I'd ask people who would likely know the answer.

thanks.

i think it is possible
what if u made three different tombstone in the same place each with a different name. then just hide and show the different tombstones on a timer. wouldnt that work?

Basically that could work, but the clients definately need the model / textures.

Note that the thumbstones in the hunt are not models but brushes I think.

not sure I understand omniscient's plan

yes, for this to work u will have to have them d/l textures. what i mean is that u would have 3 brushes, all on top of eachother. target name them t1 t2 t3 etc. in ur script have something like $t1 hide $t2 hide wait 5 (seconds) $t3 hide $t2 show. just do this and ur tombstones will change. like i said though, u have to d/l textures.

You are talking about stock maps arn't you . You can't have tombstones unless they are models and you spawn them . Even if you changed the textures in the shader it would be hard to scale them and any thing with that texture in the map will have the new texture .

yes, he is talking about the hunt. its possible, but not with out a d/l.

That idea had come up in our discussion but sounded way more complex than we were willing to get. Sounds like with lazy clients that aren't willing to d/l map packs, it would be impossible to pull off.

Thanks for the discussion though, really appreciate your insights!

one thing you could do is make the gravestones change their pictures, and use pictures that are already shipped w/ mohaa.
