I think, the MohRadiant 'll kill me, or drives me crazy:
I like to create Terrain with more textures, but my undertaking is failed.
So:
- i created a terrain (LOD terrain/create from brush with 512x512 unit)
- i added a snow texture to it
- i clicked ctrl+f (Edit facet flags)
- and ctrl+shift+right click on face
..and i wanted to add other texture to selected face/s, but it hadn't to work.
i have seen the forum messages, but i haven't found the answer
Somebody help me, please

control+shift+left click on unselected terain to select and texture one 512 x 512 patch . You don't have to make your terain one connected terain you can make other patches too and over lap them a bit .

O.K.-O.K. i wanted to write it (shitf+ctrl+right click)..
But its a terrible, and slow method... i must to select 512x512 units and texture it (texture scaling, and bla-bla-bla)
Why isnt a simple, clear way, how i should to make nice map?
.. if i want to add bomb craters, roads, and some textures, need some better and easier way...
(could i make a huge pictures with photoshop, or.. i don't know

)
hasn't any terrain mapping tutorial somewhere? (step by step for silly users)

I?m a newbie but as far as I know you cant texture lod terrain with more than one texture and if you want to do soft transitions you must use easygen or something. Please if I?m untruth tell me because I?m interested in do transitions of textures in lod terrain too.

So, i have made a terrain with EasyGen.
Terrain 's very nice, and pretty, and... 16MB
So, i use the Mohradiant to Terrainmaking, and texturising, but it's very stupid (4exmple undo-redo function, etc.)
therefore the work is very slow with it..
Now i have a new problem:
The textures junction 's wrong on my map..
Does anybody know, why?[/img]

I?m not sure if its better to do little 512x512 lod terrains or if is the same to do a 2048x2048. Is it a problem to have very great lod terrains because its easier to work with one big terrain than with four little cause you have to control its junctions everytime and clicking ctrl+g for taking em liying into the grid. Can anybody help me?

LOD is a great way to make small hills and craters, but use it sparingly. For flat ares, just use normal brushes. And, for cliffs, roads, rubble, or moutains, use patch mesh.
The look of your LOD (level of detail) will change depending on the settings a player has. So, test you LOD at different settings. In the editor, LOD Terrain > scale 1 is the closest to "max detail" you can get.

Hey Franko74, have you missed our tutorial on making LOD terrain by drawing it in a graphic program?
/t.php?id=86
It does not help your texturing prob, but it may help in the basic design.
Cant you use 2 identical LOD:s with diffrent textures where you remove the faces in in one and leave the corresponding faces in the other LOD?
two lod patches

That might work, but my bet would be no because it would probably cause black spots in the light compile. Much easier to just use patch mesh.

Collision detection of patch mesh sucks, especially if you jump. You can go right through it. I guess I'm the only one still using triangle brushes.

That terrain looks like it's blended really good... what technique did you use?

It's a simple trick: i use custom textures...
but think isn't good way, because the junctions are showing

(suxx radiant)
The technique:
- I created a big picture with photoshop (5120x5120 pixel),
- and put lot of textures to it (from MOHAA .pk3 texture files, and other)..
- i cut it to 512x512 size picture
- and added to lod terrain surface..
So, it isn't the perfect way, but usable to this, 4xmple:
