disappering ceiling textures

Well I feel just silly but this one has been bugging me. I've been coming along famously with MOHRadient; I've made multiple adjoining rooms with doors that open properly, I have sound, no leaks, caulk outside and textures and light inside. Things are looking good.

The problem is, whatever texture I put on the ceiling turns black once the map is compiled. The light fixtures are still there and the light works but the ceiling is black. Any clues what I'm doing wrong? Yes, I'm a newbie. One last thing, when I reopen Radient, the ceiling texture looks fine, it's just in the game where it's black.

Okay, I experimented a little with the light elements, the ceiling comes back but then there are strange shadows on the light fixtures, very odd. Also, I noticed some textures do not reflect light. Such tedium!

Have you tried using ambient light? that can help in some cases...
Press 'n' to bring up your Entity window:

Key: ambientlight
value: 60 60 60

you can mess with the value, lower numbers = less lighting. 60 60 60 is an average lighting.

What I found is that where I put the light entity in relationship the the light fixture made a difference. So that problem is solved. One day, I'll learn to make a window and an elevator. thanks for the help!

A lot of things can cause black spots or faces that wont light. Overlaping brushes and leaks into the void are the most common.
