Clip brushes are special brushes that are used to simulate characteristics of certain texture properties (metal, wood,) and/ or to make certain objects (selectively) solid.
For instance, a brush textured with 'player clip' would be an invisible brush in the game that would prevent players from walking through it, but bullets and grenades would be able to pass through. 'Clip all' would prevent everything from passing through.
'Metal Clip' is a solid, invisible brush that you would use to texture static objects made of metal that aren't rendered solid, or anything else that you would want to sound metallic when shot.
The others ones are mostly self explantory. Just make a simple test map and try placing different clip brushes in there to test out their properties and see what happens.

As wide as you want it be! But here are some general guidelines for how to construct things-
There are approximately 16 grid units per foot--with the default grid size (key 4), each square is 8x8 units. Players are 96 units tall, 32 units wide and deep. That should help you in figuring out how large to build doorways and entrances.

Insert a spawn point (right click in any 2d view, info > Player > start)
That is another way of deciding how big things are compared to people, if you cant remember all of the numbers.

for a road's dimensions, it also could be helpful to place a truck or jeep model (or two) on the road and see how they would fit
