question 1: How can I make my map have best fps? Does this require alot of detail brushes? Can you give me examples of what i could do please.
question 2: When I put my map into pk3 form with everything in it udersound, .urc, ect I notice when im in spectate just looking around my map. When I go off the lod terrain and away from the map that some of the brushes run with me. It looks really bad. Do i need to make my sky box larger, or is there a leak somewhere that i need to find?
Thanks.

they run with you because of misuse of caulk texture. um, detail helps in moderation. only "details" should be detail. trim, boxes, all that stuff. floors and walls definitely not detail.

so you mean that I have caulk somewhere? Or that I need to use caulk texture first. You prolly mean the first, what if an area is not covered by the skybox, would that cause it. Would not having like trim( or trees/ bushes around the outside of my map have aneffect on this?
Thanks

Detail brushes will help your compile time, but aren't designed to increase FPS.
The reason for your brushes "running with you" is that in spectate, you can actually exit your skybox. It is then that this probobly happens.
Check it while actually in the level, not a spectator. You may see that it is fine.

1. Build everything out of caulk first if you can stand it then texture each face of each brush that can bee seen by the player by using ctrl+shift+leftclick on each face.
2. Don't bog the map down with models.
3. Don't bog the map down with Trees.
4. Don't make a bagillion little tiny brushes everywhere.
5. Use a farplane. If you want the absolute best fps then do this:
Load the utility textures by using keyword utility in the search bar up top and press enter. Find the texture called caulk sky. Use this for your sky texture. (its gonna be grey in game but this is just to match the fog/farplane)
Then in the worldspawn in the entity window make a farplane and farplane_color (the fog color) along the lines of this.
key: farplane
value: 3200
key: farplane_color
value: .333 .333 .333
This will max the fps right out if done right.

btw, i didnt mean first. whne u ahve a culk testure that can bee seen by the player with nothing behind u it will "run with you" or give that kind of effect. fog does wonders for fps, the general is right.

i have another question. I have built a ladder on the side of a bridge going up. I textured it, put a ladder bruch infront of it, did the func_ladder, and put an angle on it. When i get in game the ladder is not there, I change the size and everything but it wont show up, What the problem???

The brushes are missing no where to be found, I cant climb either. I made it so the brushes stik out a ways to and still no sign of any brushes. I dont know where it is, I made the ladder detail but that shouldnt do nething. I switched textures so it couldnt be that. Im confused...
