i know this has been answered to thousands of times but i've been searching for 20 minutes now and i can't find a post about it
.....
how much units is a player
AND
wot IS a unit on the grid.....and on what grid
is it the tiny squares of grid 1 or the giant of grid 10.... :?

16 units = one US foot. But, the best way to judge height in the editor is to use an AI entity or a player start. Players are 6 feet tall in the game (96 units).

The max step is 16 units high--any higher and the player has to jump. If you make the steps any smaller than 12 units deep, the player will fall while running down the steps. But, the most common size for steps is 16 by 16.

Yep, 96 units tall on grid 1 (key 1). And, the player is 32 units deep and 32 units wide. But, you need more clearance to go up ladders. When a player ducks down, he is 64 units tall. I like to make my door openings 128X64 (112X64 if there is a 16 unit floor).

The default grid size is 8X8 units (key 4), if you dont change it.

i think this is rather confusing, because a player is 96 units no matter what grid u're using, he just needs 96 "grid boxes" on grid 1 (3 "boxes" on grid 32...) :wink:

The easiest way for me to become "de-confused" on this was to go to edit-preferences, and click the "paint sizing info". This will tell you how big your brush is no matter what grid your on. :D :wink:
