New Wiki site for The Rjukan project

Hi there lads!

I've been experimenting with a new site for The Rjukan project. Basically its a very over competent site using TikiWiki. But the core is a Wiki. I've set it up mostly for one reason: A Wiki lets anyone edit the pages of the site as they want. Yep. Its true. Can anyone say "The perfect environment for creating tutorials"?

As anyone can edit the pages of a Wiki, it is very easy to "grow" tutorials in a very nice way. Say someone made a quick start on a tutorial, or maby just gave it a name to indicate that the tutorial is needed. Someone else can then step in and write some short notes on what they know in the subject. Next someone else sees that there is an error and corrects it ( or just comments that it is wrong for the original author to corrrect it. ).

You get the point.

So what I would like is for you all to get in here ( http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~rjukanproj ... -index.php ) and try it out. You need to register to use it, and when you do you get access to a load of other stuff as well, but the main point is the Wiki. So please get in there and try it out. And remember: the rest of the site is under development, but the Wiki can only be developed by the users.

So if you see any errors,m be sure to report them to me ( Use the "Contact us" link in the menu ).

Cheers!

No mods but the small Scout mod I made as of yet... I'm currently trying to find the time to help Random put the finishing touches on Vemork Ferry, the 3:rd map out of 4 in the Vemork series that started The Rjukan project.

Yes, I've said that a few times on modtheater.com but nobody listened :) I'm very happy to finally see a MOH modding Wiki set up!

Stupid question: what is The Rjukan project and can the Wiki be used for any kind of MOH modding information or is it supposed to be specific to that project?

A more important question: assuming the Wiki is for all kinds of MOH modding information, what about all the tutorials already here on .Map? I don't really like the idea of having to look in lots of different places for tutorials - it'd be great if everything was in one place :) I know it wouldn't be quick to do, but is there a plan to move all the tutorials from .Map to the Wiki?

Regards,
David

The Rjukan project started out as a site for my mapping releases, but quickly grew to host the tuts I made while mapping. The Wiki is supposed to work as a general collaboration area, so yes: do what you want. :)

Well, some of the tutorials will be transferred, but only because I made them from the start and "own" them. Not sure about the others. But I see no harm in asking Surgeon ( site owner of .Map ) to use them. Maby some form of mutual benefit arrangement? Or ask the authors separately.

Well like I said before I like the idea a lot :)

Not sure where Surgeon is... haven't seen him in months (lots of months)

I will look into it and see if we maybe could get a TikiWiki here at .map :D... ofcourse if anyone wants to give a hand welcome he is ;)

If you just want a Wiki, there is no reason to use the TikiWiki as it is a complete site system, and we got a nice site here already, and I dont think we want to swap forums and all that stuff... but make a search for "Wiki download php" and you willl probably find lots of other stand-alone Wikis out there.

If you want to run a Wiki here on .Map, perhaps it would be possible to find one that integrates with phpBB (shares account information with it, at least).

If a Wiki is set up here on .Map, would you move all the general modding information you have onto it, Bjarne? Like I mentioned, I like the idea of everything in one location :) I guess there is the concept of "inter-Wiki links" in some (all?) Wikis but I don't really know anything about that, I'm just assuming it makes it easy to link to pages between Wikis if you know the name of the page even if you don't know the full URL.

I have another question for you, Bjarne: I know Wikis generally all have revision history, so if someone deletes some content it's easy to restore it, and your Wiki has the benefit of requiring an account so it's less likely people will harm it, but I was wondering if you monitor all changes to make sure nothing malicious is being done? I haven't looked to see how the Wiki you're running supports subscribing for update notifications and if you can subscribe to get notifications for every page on the whole Wiki, but I wouldn't mind seeing all the update notifications to make sure nobody is doing anything naughty :)

In TikiWiki you can subcrige to any Wiki page. But I havent really tried it out yet.

Oh, and I found the button that activates the PDF generation of Wiki pages, so now you can get all the Tutoruials in PDF format :) ( some pics looked strange however ).

As for the moving of stuff from my site to here, most of my tuts are already in the tut section here. I set up may Wiki mainly as a working ground: once any tutorials are considerad complete, I see no problems in spreading them.
