Areaportals and func_door (not func_rotatingdoor)

Ok, so for all of my doors that slide sideways (my func_door) I made a space inside the wall for them to slide into. Unfortunatly, this means there are only structural brushes on 3 sides of the door, the 4th has the open space for the door to move in. It is also the same for my entities that slide into walls. I know I can turn off the portals manually, but there is still a space on one side of all these areaportals where there would be a structural brush if the door was rotating. Thus one side of the areaportal sticks into air. I think this is why the areaportals won't work for my func_doors. Is there any way around this so I can use areaportals with my func_doors? (or maybe i'm not thinking of something I could try). Thanks in advance.

Close off that space in the door frame, and set the lip to stop just short of the wall. Then set your areaportal to the same size as the door brush, but only 2 units thick. If you want the door to be flush with the wall when it opens, it will need a small pocket (4-8 units deep). Then just extend the door and portal brushes into the pocket and set the lit so it is flush.
It is ok for func_doors to move through structual brushes when they open. Be sure to caulk all hidden faces of the frame brushes, but not the inside of the pocket or the door brush faces.

so basically make it so the areaportal does not extend past the door brush into the surrounding structural brushes? As in...not like what you would normally do for areaportals? Just clarifying.
And also, is the same true for doors I manipulate in script that move the same as a func_door?

The portal seals the hole in the structure caused by the func_door. I don't know who is saying to overlap the structual brushes, but I don't.

Oh, it says that in the areaportal tut on this site. That's where I got the idea.

i get the warning areaportal brush doesnt touch 2 areas or is it touches more than 2 areas when i overlap the portal brush into the structural brushes

If the area is sealed by sturctural brushes that arn't transparent then it should work either way . Windows won't seal so if you have doors into rooms with windows put areaportals in those doors too .
