How to compile from scratch for newbie mapper.

Hi Guys, I am totally new to this mapping game, and have just completed my first map - a square room with a light and a start point. Trouble is, how do I get this so I can walk around in it in the MOHAA game? I understand I need to compile it, and have downloaded the MBUILDER tool from this website. I have set it up as per the online guide, but do not know what to do with the files, which directory to put them in - and how to bring them up in the MOHAA game.

Also when I run the MBUILDER program and try to compile, it does three steps which I need to acknowledge by pressing any key, and it finishes by loading up my medal of honor game to the usual loaded screen with the music in the background. Is this normal?

Please help the Newbie. Many thanks and a Happy Christmas to you all.

Ok.

create a directory called maps in your mohaa folder. This is where I save my .map files (ie the files created by MoH Radiant). Next create another folder called maps in your MoHAA/main directory.

My MBuilder is setup like this:

Game Directory: C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA
Compiler Directory: C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1
Map Source: C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\maps

With the batch file (the lines in yellow are my own comments and are not in the batch file):

"C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1\Q3map.exe" -gamedir C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA
"C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1\Q3map.exe" -vis -gamedir C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA
"C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1\MOHlight.exe" -gamedir C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA

These first 3 lines are instructions to the compiler

Copy "C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\maps\.bsp" C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps

This copies the now compiled .bsp file from the maps directory to the main/maps directory

cd C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA
"C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\MOHAA.exe" +set developer 1 +set thereisnomonkey 1 +set cheats 1 +set ui_console 1 +g_gametype 0 +devmap

This starts MoHAA in developer mode, gets rid of the starting movies, etc.

After the map has been compiled MoHAA will start and you'll see a loading screen. Then, all things being right, your map should come up.

I can't even get my map to show up in the Selction area. All of my directories are correct. I have double checked them all.

Any help?

I tried your batch file...

...and I just got errors in the command box - I believe that reading the code around the marked errors, Windows XP seems to be adding directories onto the beginning of the paths quoted in the batch file ie.
c:DocumentsandSettings/peter/MyDocuments/***then your directories*** so in reality the batch files do not appear to exist. Could this be the problem?

I use windows XP - maybe this is causing the problem. I still have not managed to get my one room to work. How do I load it up to play it, and which files do I need to distribute to my brothers computer so that we can both play each other on it?

:x

when you build your map in mbuilder, it loads into mohaa right..
it will then crash out and get into main menu..... .........
bring the console up, look for something unusual

if you can find anything unusual tell me in the forum.....

maybe you should not have your maps in documentsandsettings and in the mohaa maps directery
