I'm curious, Does the Q3 engine not support changing weather effects like in GTA3? u know , 24 hours=1 hour in game, u have morning afternoon rain etc..
why?
bet that can be done!

The real task would be getting the sun to move and change color as time progresses, but I think it'd be possible.

It would be alot of scripting and u would probly have the sky in a timed sequence using 4 or 5 different sky textures.
Sure would add more realism.

You spend more time in game getting killed while admiring the architecture rather than fraggin other people.
probably this line from the post "You know you are addicted to mapping when... "is best 2 describe this post

.
y would u be looking at the sky 2 observe the sun's motion when ur fighting like hell on the ground and on constant alert 2 frag any1 that comes into ur sight (no...not in the sky).if it was possible ,u would make probably a 1mb

script file(i say 1mb 2 indicate its v.big)so u just watch it 4 say 10 mins in a server rotation

?!!!
sure it would add realism but i dont think it would be noticable in 10 mins or 20.besides did u honestly notice the sky in gta3 while the cops were running behind u and u were fighting gangsters everywhere

while blazing like hell 2 reach ur destination b4 the time limit expires?
well,thats just my opinion anyways

There' s nothing wrong with trying to stretch the limits of what can be done. And although it may not be useful in a multiplayer situation, I'm sure that it would be neat in a single-player map.
Imagine yourself in the middle of a destroyed city fighting Germans while the sun goes down and it becomes night. I don't know about what others may think, but I think that would be sweet and really help make the game feel more 'real'.
rain and snow

You can turn the rain/snow on/off and adjust the farplane fog as you like. But, to change the sun direction or brightness, you would have to switch the players to a new map. This is because all the light and shadows are drawn when the map is compiled.
Note: A caulksky sky will use the color of the farplane, and that color is adjustable in game.

probably that will work best, but if it was a single player like u say .then it will be better if u make it of different maps.after completetion of a few objectives u are transported 2 another copy of the map with different skies and a sun.the farplane could be used 2 make the tranition look more realistic.

So scripting the farplane to rotate its color might give you the weather changing effect.
But M&M if people didn't push the envelope on development and ask "what if" we would still be playing pong!

i think it's agreat idea, esp moving the sun so it blinds you in certain "favorite" positions, this would give the game a total new dynamic, and get those campers out and about.

Id designers assure us that the BSP process will remain as with past Id games, but the VIS and RAD (visibility and lighting, respectively) components will be rendered real time in the engine.
Yahooooo!
