Hey all how do I texture a brush so that it has only 1 face so that it looks like a fence? I wanna be able to see and shoot through it .

simply create a brush the size of the fence you want, and texture the whole thing with "nodraw", then texture one side with a fence texture and voila you have a fence!

NOTE: make sure it is a fence texture, or another see thru texture as some textures are made for fences, grates and other "shoot" and "see" through materials.

There may be even better ways to make a fence, but this is the easiest way I can think of.

Using zipties technique your halfway there. For example use the deckgrate texture, you know like the walkways in V2 (use keyword metal to find it ).

Most times this texture wont let you shoot through it :(

I found what you need to do to make it possible for the bullets to get through, select the face with the grate texture ( all over faces should be nodraw) bring up your surface inspector and check these flags on the right of the window:

nomarks
alphashadow
fence
playerclip
monsterclip

Now it will let bullets through.

Good point, I haven't had any problems with fences and railings as far as shooting through them, but grates are another story.

Thanks for adding that info [Spec Ops] Jack Ruby! :D

im pretty sure, but i might be wrong

nomarks - doesnt leave bullet holes
alphashadow - doesnt create a shadow like a solid brush
fence - self explanitory
playerclip - cant pass though it
monsterclip - ai cant pass through it

whenever im looking for a texture to use with no draw i use the 'masked' keyword. You know... I had thought that my grates were shoot through, at least a little bit... gonna have to check now...
