The Gadget Shop !

Wow am I angry

Its my younger bro's birthday on the 11th so my mum asked what he might like, I happen to know he would love a Digital Camcorder, but these are at least ?250 here so it seemed impossible until I foudn a little hewlett packard one for ?99 at Dixons ( these are UK High Street stores for any of you guys not from here ).

I wrote the product name, code number all relevant details so my mum could just go buy it. They didnt have it in stock and the guys at Dixons told her to go to The Gadget Shop. The gadget shop sells almost totally useless stuff, just gimmicks for kids, like keyrings, singing hamsters, and other crap you would never need.

Well the A**hole in there talked my mum into buying a piece of S*it digi stills camera that happened to be able to take like 10 secs of video with no sound, she has no clue what she is lookign for and trusted this guy to sell her the correct equipment, turns out it was the same price as the one I had found and written details for her and she assumed it was the same as a Camcorder, which it obviously isnt :(

I called them up and explained its the wrong thing, so they told me its THEIR POLICY to never give a refund, just vouchers to use at their store :(

Now I am a bit of a hothead in situations like this so I explained that its MY POLICY to strangle managers of shops that blatantly rob my mother, the idiot on the end of the phone said you cant threaten us, I left it at WE WILL SEE !

I just looked into the consumer laws and they are obliged to refund if the goods sold are NOT FIT FOR USE, eg. the thing does not do what the store clerk told you it would do ( in my case movies with sound ) and also if the goods are not as described by the packaging or verbally by the salesman. So it would seem I have a clear case of being entitled to a refund.

I will call them tomorrow to spit the relevant laws and amendments to the laws at them. I will let you know how it works out.

Failing a refund I have ways of finding where the manager lives, pretty naughty but so is ROBBING MY MOTHER, and the manager may find his car to be quite damaged one morning :)

OOOO it makes me angry, my mum was in tears when they declined to refund her cash, ?100 is not a small sum of money, she works sooo hard for it.

They WILL NOT get away with this daylight robbery, I swear it :)

That's right, Jack, kick their asses!

That's not right that they took advantage of your mother like that, so make sure that they do the right thing and refund the money. I hate stores with bogus policies like that.

If it was my cash I might accept their policy, but robbing my mother and making her cry is something I will NOT stand by and see, I cant let this one slide :)

Also for any of you guys seeking someones address in the UK you can trace them through www.192.com

Well I called them and quoted the relevant laws but they still wont move on the complaint.

So I asked for the managers name, the fools gave it to me, now I have found not only his address but also his wifes and daughters name, I wonder if I read the details back to him he may now finally change his tune :)

BOYCOTT THE GADGET SHOP, DONT BUY THEIR INFERIOR GOODS :)

Mission Accomplished :)

I didnt even resort to being too nasty.

I exchanged it for a Video camera :)

It took a while of arguing my point, he didnt want to concede defeat but my persistence won through.

I told him the only possible reason for his POLICY of not refunding money was because he knows the goods he sells are inferior, what other possible reason could there be for it.

So dont accept it when people like these try to rip you off, YOU tell them how it is and whats gonna happen.

No refund but instead store credit is a VERY common policy here in the states....

Part of the reasoning behind this method, is to prevent fraud associated with theft/returns.

sorry to be posting this now but first congrats!!!

i'm only reading off topic cos i'm waiting for Splaetos to post his script and noticed this one lit up,

by law any consumer may take an electrical item back to the seller within twenty eight (28) days of purchase and receive a full refund for the current sale price of the item, or the item price on the receipt (depends which is higher  ) as long as it is in the same condition and original packaging as when it was bought, i know that that no longer applies as youru 1st post was 30 days ago, but just something to bear in mind for later :P

scratched cars has always worked for me, but knowing i can now get their childrens names, that'll make them soon see sense

i'm happy that everything went fine.
i absolutely don't like the idea of scratched cars, of anything u might want to use the managers' childrens names for, or whatever. The result would neither be that u get ur money nor that this guy will understand that you're right and he was wrong. The result rather would be that u become criminal in whatever form, have to pay even more money or even go to jail, all for something really stupid, called 'revenge'. Dunno what would make ur mom cry more, a**hole in shop or son in jail?

I don't say, that u should do nothing ("offer the other cheek") but don't behave like a Neanderthal! Well, you didn't, so my congrats for this!

i think the car stuff was jokes.
good thing u got the cash back
i dont like my mother as a person (dont get me wrong i greatly appreciate what she does for me caring for me and stuff) i just wouldnt consider here a friend, but if some jackass storemananger made her cry i would be pissed out of my mind too. if Dicksons ever mover here to the states ill be sure to warn my friends.
