don't want to clap too loud on my own back, but u should go to the MOHAA recyclingbin and get 2-3 maps just to examine how basic things (like stairs) could be done
you should make your own stairs!
every basic staircase you make will teach you more about design, scale, and angles, so that later you can make bigger, better and more unique stairs!(among other things) Stairs are the most common, and first encountered examples of complex architecture, they can range from '30 second' simple stone block bunker stairs, to angled, beveled, multi-directional/landing structures.
but thats just my opinion =)
on the other hand, if you really really must have say a spiral staircase in one of your first maps, you'll problly need to use someone else's as they are far from easy to make =)

@M&M, if agentmad007 gave me 2$$, u'd get 1
I admit it. I was too lazy to build those metal stair cases. I just pulled them out of that manvis tutorial for the water treatment factory. I also grabbed that section of air ducts, a ladder, and a printing press from Wacko's recycler. I had to seriously condense the printing press to fit in my room though. LOL
When I start a new map, I'll be more proactive about making my own prefabs for that stuff.
So thanks for the goodies, Wacko.
