i think the pointy curvy thing is the reload catch. see how it connects to the handle area near a hinge?

Ok i got the gun ingame following darkangels export tut which you can see @

But I have 2 problems.
1. If i select the shotgun the original one comes up I have to drop it then pickup one i've placed in the map
2. It's positioned strangely even though i placed it over the original shotgun????? heres a pic
Any ideas on how i can solve this????

2: check if the orientation of your origin tag is the same as for the original shotgun.

hmm in the tutorial it said to remove all joints so i removed origin also - i take it thats why i'm having problems
and I've fixed the 1st problem it was a tiki error

cool thanks it seems to be a little out of position but i guess i can just move it a little in the grid. now all it needs is a good skin.
Also i think i'll remove the arms cos they look crap

Ok it looks alot better now thanks for the help
But i've now got to other problems i didnt notice before: -
1. The reload sounds work fine but the shooting sound doesnt work, and i've copied in all the sounds from the original shotgun.
2. The shots seem to do no damage??????

i would agree too, and along these lines had anyone ver replaces the mg42 tik with the shotgun one, its turns out sideways like what shifty showed, maybe its a shotugn habbit when modded???? it seems to me the shotgun is the most out of place weapon, i mean there is no axis (alleid?) version, its name isnt capitalized, and its only in one sp mission...
