Claiming others maps as their own?

I've recently been made aware by mappers and players that a clan is more or less claiming that the map "The Canal" - Liberation game mode is made by them.

To their defence the added readme file states that they have just modified the original pk3, but then again: no one reads readme files :?

The problem is that the download and the new loading screen ( that everybody reads ) suggests that the map is made by Clan "Hustlas and Henchmen".

The real facts are ( as most of you know ) that "The Canal" was made by Flying Sheep. It was later updated by me after recieving the original map file from Flying Sheep. I also created the Liberation scripting for the Liberation version as well as the Objective version.

I'd like you to check it out for yourself and see if you think they have crossed the line: http://www.hustlasandhenchmen.com/

Hmmm... no bien. Well my suggestion would be to send the admin of the clan a nice friendly e-mail stating that this is not their map and they should put that is orignally made by Flying Sheep and optimized by you and they should not suggest that they made it. It should say on the loading screen: Hustlas and Henchmen Canal Liberation, modified from Flying Sheep/Bjarne BZR's version, or something to that affect. But I don't know if it is serious enough to consider legal action, because it could be an honest mistake and they didn't realise that is was misleading.

despite the fact that it is misleading, tehy havent done anything wrong. its very disrespectful, but u wouldnt win a lawsuit........ that is if u even could file a lawsuit because u didnt copywrite it. id say just send them a letter and politely ask tell them waht ur thinking. if they dont comply, just spread the word that they are @$$holes and thats the best u can do.

Think it's about time we as mappers look to the creators of mohaa, did you know that on the AA maps the author has left his name in the map. Look in the Hunt for instance, the authors name is on a tree behind the allied spawn, go spectate, it's up the road passed the spawn on the left, on the tree you will find the map makers name NED on the tree, and because this is a brush it cannot be removed or modified, the only way would mean decompile and hours after hours of work. as for the idiots that cant map and claim they made it, they are just sad, but imagine if you went on the server with them with a map signature in place, lmao how pathetic would they look.

Afternoon, blue60007.

Yep.
As long as you remember to create your signature completely out of brushes.

Cheers,
