The first competition.....

okay, blue and i have gotten everything we need figured out and now it's time to start taking entrants for the first officially unofficial mapping competition!!!!! :D :D :) :D

we decided to just use Scronty's idea of a bridge prefab. and no, you cannot simply make a drawbridge and expect to win. :P

the scoring is based off of the actual mapping reviews,

let x = score in category

Texturing - x/15 (duh..)
Lighting - x/15 (duh..)
Architecture - x/20 (duh..)
Audio - bonus x/5 (sounds related to bridge, amb sounds don't count)
Performance - x/15 (good fps..)
Fun - x/10 (is it fun to play on the bridge)
Theme - x/10 (uniform theme throughout the bridge)
Creativity - x/10 (duh..)
Scripting - bonus x/5 (bonus moving parts..)
Custom - bonus x/5 (custom textures)

Overall possible 110/100
Overall score x/100

then add em up and divide by 100.

since this is going to be relatively easy we won't take too many applicants. we're aiming for about 2 more judges (blue and i among them, total of 4-5) and 5-10 entrants.

time limit is going to be a week. we'll take a couple days to wait for applicants and start on Wednsday, the 28th. so from now til then is time to sign up!! :D

hope to hear from some people!!! :D

Right we need a few more judges and entrants!

There is no size restriction. Also any custom textures would be cool. Also if you could make a level surrounding it, so its playable by itself. Or if you threw in a quick river or train tracks under it... Or the bridge is for a train... Nothing fancy, just to display it.

Ok, now that we already have enough judges, we just need some applicants to the competition! This could be a place to show off your on the spur of the moment mapping skills and have a friendly competition with your felow mappers!

The deadline for sign up is rapidly approaching! However we may extend it to the end of the week. But don't count on it, so sign up now. This may only take a couple days of your time so sign up.

Let's start a list of judges and applicants here.

Judges (4)
  • lizardkid
  • blue60007 blue60007{AT}nalu.net
  • Yarik
  • Bjarne BZR bjarne-g{AT}home.se
Naturally you replace the {AT} with a @ ( email scanners love explicit e-mail adresses  )

Entrants (6) :D
  • kai0ty
  • echo_rancid
  • Scronty
  • Mj
  • Madmappper
  • tltrude
EDIT: A few more things.

Numero uno, we will be watching to make sure no one takes a bridge from another map, not made by them and claims it as their own, this is called plagarism. Plagarism will not be tolerated! We will ban you from the competitions at the very least if you steal someone elses work. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Numero dos, we have extended the deadline to Friday so you can either sign up by posting here or via pm'ing one of the judges.

okay, since no one has responded to entries, we're extending the deadline.

now we'll be waiting until Friday until we start. if no one comes then, well we'll jsut give up or something.

also, you can use maps yuov already made, just as long as you made them i know i'd happily give out my prefabs to anyone who asked but please, do not copy someone else. :)

i believe that's it, oh, and we may be posting the winners bridge if our webhoster agrees....

Afternoon, All.

I'm in.

Wondering if an entire map could actually be the brdge? It'd have to be something the size of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which I don't think I could finish in a week  .

Maybe a bridge over a creek on a golf-course would be more my size :? .

Cheers,
Scronty

Ok, so it starts today and we get till next Wednesday? Do we just post the Prefab file here? If it has moving parts, sounds, and custom textures, it will take more then just a prefab file.

well,i would've loved to join .but my midterm exams have begun a few days ago .and i dont think i'd be having much time   .
but i was just wondering about a few things .

1-what prevents some1 from starting on a certain "project" b4 the deadline .i mean b4 the competition actually starts .(no ,im not giving ideas 2 any1) .this way ,he would be having an unfair advantage over ppl that started at the "normal" time of the contest .

2-what aout another side score .not official ,and not the judges scor .but tis the general public's rating .like say a certain prefab gets 87% score from judges and 95% from the members of this forum .that would give who ever will use this prefab ,a clear opinion about the prefab

hmm!!!i forgot the others but if i remember ,ill surely post .
