next competition?

well, Axion gave us the thumbs up and his blessings for another competition. so,

what kind of prefab stuff would you like to see in the next competition?

i put up this poll because the competition ends this Wednsday and we'd rather go by popular opinion or at least know what .map wants next for prefab, that way we can start another competition right after this one.

ideas are:

landscape
building
outdoor thingy (like bridge)
underground thingy
small town or village

I like the landscape one. Here is what you could do. Have a small mountain and then have a road winding around it and then have a house or two at the top. Just a thought...

I like underground, 'cos there are no restrictions exept no fresh air... loads of detail can be piled shamelessley into underground maps, and the results can be spectacular

Afternoon, All.

Underground cave system (as opposed to an overground cave system ;) ).

Cheers,

I like the undergorund cave idea too. Only, one of the requirements should be that it does not get drawn when a player is on the surface. That can be done with vis_leafgroups or area brushes. We could really go to town with lighting a natural cave too.

I think you guys are hung up on the prefab idea. The name of the forum is "Mapping Competitions" not "Prefab Competitions". I also, think the judging should be done by the competetors (just can't vote for your own).

I like the cave idea too.

tltrude, that brings up a good point.
Here is what I was thinking, you could have a judges score and then the public score (anyone can score a map), then the two can be averaged together.

yeah, i kind of was thinking to tend more to mapping.....

and YES! good idea T|Trude, public opinion and judges opinion. averaging opinion and judge score.

so far caves are sounding pretty popular, and that's what i was leaning toward as well, but don't give away secrets about how to hide tehm!!! :)
*shakes finger at T|Trude*
it'll be a good way to get people towards the leafgroups tut.

so far so good guys, keep it up!

How about a small village with required stuff?
  • - X Destroyed Buildings
    - X Non-Destroyed Buildings
    - Village Square
    - Sewer
Just an example

*shakes finger at T|Trude*

which finger  ? :P

and i think madmappers example is far more interesting .
making prefabs is just boring .but making a complete map would be better i think .after all no1 is gonna use all those prefabs ,but maps could come in handy  specially if they were good !!!!!
but i don think a week could be enough for an unrushed map !!!

you'll notice i changed the topic name of this thread.....

yeah, ideas welcome and underground and villiage is good.
and yes, one week isn;t long enough.

when Axion is fully returned he'll be able to take this job over.

no M&M, not that one. the pinky how about.
it's all up to time really. if Axion could give us a less approximate date we'd be able to adjust better.

but, *says with a small sigh* that's not possible so we'll just go with whatever we can.

Well if the next one is a destroyed village, you can count me out. That map has been done so many times, it's not funny.

Afternoon, tltrude.

That's why I suggested a cave system. All cave systems in use by any military would have vents and ducts throughout the complex. This would give a bit of flexibility to map layouts and routes to take (and where to watch out for those pesky opponents).

I'd prefer the map to be an objective map.

Cheers,
Scronty

how about an sp map?

we have a grand amazing superbly huge number of 3
sp maps, yes, 3!!!!

BCDA will bring some new ones to it but a mapping competition for sp would be great in my view.

argument against, mp is soooo much easier and sp requires something none of us but jv_map can really do with ai, scripting.

so why not broaden our horizens?
