Hi i'm new to this mapping so can you please help me. I have started my new map and finally added light etc, it compies ok and plays (er) ok but my sky smeers across the screen all the time. It happens from the start, when the map loads i am left looking at buildins to the left but the man with the gun from the loading screen in front of me from then whenever in move the player the sky and the man smeer across the screen, not across buildings just the sky. PLEASE HELP

That smear is the "void" and should always be avoided when mapping, so to fix this, put a skybox around your map.

Skybox = Box around your map with no gaps in it with a sky texture applied

Hope this helps,

You sure you got a sky texture on the box and not the caulk_sky?

K, this is harder than i thought to fix :P

A) are you sure you got a hollow box surrounding your map, so your map is inside the box? and all the inside sides at least are textured?

B) you could be going down with something mbuilder does when two sides overlap each other and kindof make each other dissapear, so make sure your sky doesnt at anypoint overlap another brush

lol,i dont think he didnt put a ground brush

but a sky box should block u from falling unless its not touching the ground u walk on

ground skybox
---------- I
---------- I
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

in this diagram ,im just showing a corner of the sky box but if u have the ground something like that ,ur gonna fall into that empty space

however

ground
-----------I
-----------I
IIIIIIIIIIII

something like this should stop the player from falling

if u want to fix it without enlarging the ground or the sky ,u could add a clip brush where u dont want the player to go
simply make a normal brush then put a clip all texture on it

on that note of of stopping players going somewhere you dont want them to, is there any blockages in the textures file such as the ones you find on the hunt (allies spawn) or do i have to create them. And yes i do have some groung on the map

Blockages...? the barbed wire or the hedges?

Hedges are found as a texture in misc_outside and barbed wire is a static model in right click menu>static>obstacles

Do you mean objects or invisible brushes?

You can use playerclip's from the common folder. Clip all will stop everything, so if you don't want bazooka shells to appear to explode in midair use a player clip.
