How would you go about making different colors of smoke in spearhead? I downloaded a mod that changes them to black, blue, and keeps the red; but I'm not too sure on how he did it. :)

Well inside the pk3 file there's tga image files and dds files, but I'm not sure what the dds files are for? :(

.dds files are mip maps. As I understand it, that means that they contain the multiple images, generally of the same thing, at different resolutions. The graphics engine uses these for display when the object is father away or you have lowered the detail to be displayed.

There is a plug-in for Photoshop that will let you import them. I can't remember where I found it. When I do, I will post an update.

You can change the color of the smoke by editing the base.txt files found in Pak1.pk3, weapons/projectiles.It looks like this,

client
{
originemitter smoke
(
spawnrate 30
model smokegrenade_allied.spr
color 1 1 1
spritegridlighting
alpha .85
bouncefactor 0.8
life 2.25 3.5
scalerate .8
velocity 24
randvelaxis crandom 4 crandom 4 4
spin 0.133
angles 0 0 random 360
avelocity 0 0 crandom 20
scalemin 0.1
scalemax 0.25
fadedelay 2
fadein 0.25
)
}
}

The three numbers are 1)red 2)blue 3)green
They can be from 0 to 1 (eg:0.2 1 0.55)
If 1 all color from this channel is let threw
If 0 all color is blocked

And yes the color is first controled by threw the TGA files,but can be modified a bit from the original color in the above manner.
That is how he made the smoke black by making the numbers 0 0 0 ,blocking all color.
