how do i make an ai take damage using a scripted thing, all i can find is
takedamage
makes the specified entity take damage.
what i want to do is hurt or kill some guys in the zone of a bomb after it drops....
ai taking dmg?

Your AI guy should have health. So if you make the explosion entity or a script_origin above it damage things, it should hurt/kill him.

also do i need a trigger or something for it?
right now i have a plane dropping a bomb into a spherical trigger, so far no problem. but it's intended to hurt/kill some guys near the bomb hits...

If you are using the global/bomber.scr, you can put a setthread in the first bomb node (the one closest to the plane's path). It will run the thread when the bomb goes off and you can then do the radiusdamage line for the last node. You can also set off an exploder that way.
Btw, those bombs have built-in damage, if you use the global/bomber.scr.
