What are the clipping textures used for????

Post by General_DisArray »

:?:While I was looking through an example map, I notice the architect used a brush with the texture of clip. What are these used for and what are their purpose?

Also, is it possible to create your map inside of another hollowed out box textured entirely with caulk to ensure you have no leaks? If UR confused think of it in this way. Make a box that is UR map, then create a box outside of UR playable map made of caulk.

Just a suggestion for the admins; create a noobie corner for the stupid questions like mine. Just a suggestion.

They are used to prevent the player from walking through models. For example:

make a tank. When you compile it ,you seem to walk through the tank. Yuks! That's disgusting! :x So, create a box that coveres the tank and apply the clip texture.

I have submitted a tutorial on making model maps. Surgeon hasn't put it in the tutorials yet, but it explains how to add textures to models so that you dont have to add them to your map. In your tank example, I would use metal clip, so that it make appropriate sounds when you walk on it or hit it. In the mean time you can see it here: http://www.innkeeperhotel.homedns.org/T ... l_maps.htm

It makes sense now. In the example of the tank, to allow the player to walk on the tank you would just create an assembly of brushes with metal clip around the outline of the tank? the clip texture is basically an invisible solid to the player. correct or not?

thanks, frum a noob!
