Hi i made a basic file in note pad and saved it as basic script.scr hoping to use the basics and expand on them in my own maps.

for example I want a radio to play music so I will include the commands to get that working in my basic scr file then use save as to rename the file as what ever map name I am using (does that make sense?)

The problem I am having is when I give it a filename and an extension scr windows xp then thinks it is a screen saver and I cant re-open it to add any more lines of code. If i right click the file there isn't an option to open with.

hope you can help thanks - Kate

Sorry, that is not right. You have to change the extention to ".txt", open it with Notepad, work on it, and change it back to ".scr".

You can also change the the application that opens the .scr "File Type" to Notepad.

For unzipping pk3s, you should also turn off the "automattic install screensavers" option in Winzip. The .pk3 file type can also be changed to open with Winzip. Other wise you will have to change the extention to .zip to unzip them.

YEP!!!!!!!

Sorry about the double post. I was saying that "...you have to open it from either winzip or winrar... " is not right. You don't "have" to do it that way. Also, the script file does not have to be in a pk3 for testing. It will work fine (uncompressed) in either the dm, obj, or maps folders.

Not everyone has Windows XP, but the problem with the Windows screensaver extention is the same for everyone.

RIGHT!!!!!!!
technically u are using the built in viewer of whatever program ur using .

a far more simpler way which will solve ur problem for ever is to change the filetype from a screensaver to a script file .
in order to do that (on winme and winxp ) click on tools ,folder options
then a window will open ,choose the file types tab
then click on new .type .scr in the small empty box
after that click advanced (u should see screensaver selected) select text document instead .
this way every .scr file will be a script file .however this might make a few problems with ur screesavers (they will work fine ,but they wont work if u double click them)

Thanks for the tips on how to sort it. I have made a back up of the script file as a normal txt file and was going to save it as a scr file when complete as I thought this might be the easiest way.

It wouldnt matter if I set my scr files to be read as txt files through notepad because I dont use screen savers on my pc at all I have them turned off.

anyway thanks for all the help :D

Say have you ever used textpad?

You can get it from www.textpad.com

If you have an email, PM me and I'll send you an expanded syntax file for the MOHAA langauge, as well as how to set up a new document class.
