Hi Everyone,

I get the error msg: Entity x brush x duplicate plane. when I try to put the following into my map Static>furniture>metalbench

I wanted to put several benches into a room, like a waiting room. I placed one in then copied it and placed the copies in. Then when i compiled I got that error. I took all the copies back out and still got the same error. I removed the metal bench and placed it elsewhere on the map and...... yep you guessed it still the same error. I took it out alltogether and no errors.

What does entity x brush x duplicate plane mean exactly :?: and is there something wrong with the metal bench? I guess I will just draw my own benches from scratch :D

Thanks guys
Kate

Its not the benches, its one of the brushes you have made, for one dont use csg subtract, that often gives duplicate planes, try looking at the co-ordinates to see if you can find the dodgy brush, if not then search for Rogue Plugin, this hunts your map for bad brushes.

I havent used csg subtract, so thats not the problem. when i check the co-ordinates for the entity/brush giving the error it highlights the bench(s) I can put other static items in place of the bench and it works fine?

Whats the rogue plugin?

It elimenates(i think) your duplicate planes. Good for using after a decompile. And like Jack Ruby said, it hunts for the bad brushes

uhhh, i think thats right. To make it work, make a "plugins" folder in MOHAA TOOLS(the mohaa radiant one, not bsp view) and place the plugin in you new (plugins  ) folder.

roque plugins

That bobz plugin doesn't work, only the rogue plugins work for mohaa. Check out this old thread.

/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6790&highlight=rogue+plugins

The files go in the MOHAATools/plugins folder. And, the brush repair one will get rid of duplacate planes and evil polygons.

Ok I put the rogue plugin and ran that now I have a Max_Surface_Verts error.

I guess I probably made tons of mistakes with this being my first real map ah well you live and learn

Right I got rid of the MAX_SURFACE_VERTS
Now I have a MAX_POINTS_ON_WINDING and my map looks screwed up
All That Hard work  nevermind I will fix it somehow

Thanks for the help guys

Uhhmm you did make a backup of your map before using that plugin didn't you? :? Otherwise try the .bak file or the snapshots folder...

Anyway that duplicate plane error was probably an error in the collision mask of the metalbench.map, which is added at compile time (see the model maps tut). So basically a plug-in could never have found it. Apart from that it also really doesn't matter, just ignore the error in this case.

Fairly sure the MAX_POINTS_ON_WINDING means that you have too many brushes touching a solitary other...ie a long ladder will have many horizontal brushes touching the verticle.
Easily resolved if you break the brush in 2.
Not sure but I dont think there can be anymore than 32 brushes touching a solitary other.

Thanks for the help guys.

i am now thinking of taking it section by section and making all things into prefabs and building a new map using the prefabs to find the section causing the errors and fix as I go hopefully that will sort it.

JV it was a lesson learnt cos I didn't make a backup before using the plugin and I saved again after making changes therefore the .bak file was changed to include the errors.

Thanks - Kate
