Hi folks,

This is a little plea for help to try and get a functioning site up for .Map : PA. I'm working on a design but its going very slowly. I also have forgotten every bit of PHP i once learned :)

So i need a few ideas in terms of design, layout, functionality......

i'd personally like to have less army green and more bright/dark at the same time background, less base campish and more jungly.

i have no xperience in PHP or any type of webbing so i'll jsut submit ideas.

eh... why not use a bit o red, it seems better suited to the land of the rising sun. I hate this green =)

I only know enough php to throw together fairly simple blocks and modules for nuke... never thought php was terribly hard overall... its databases that kill me lol =) and interating with db, forms etc...

I thought it would be very cool to make a 'random mapping tip' display fo some sort... dunno what kind of format your using... but along the lines of the classic 'random quotes' like the block I put on our site. (I know 99% of the people are rarely, if ever going to read what pops up in that box, but I love it for some reason =p) Anyway, as opposed to random quotes, mapping tips is something that people probably might look at, and look back at again next time. I always thought that would be cool, but hey, its not like people come to my clans site for mapping tips ;) so no point in me making one(not to mention I wouldnt have felt comfortable with dispensing all but the simplest of tips personaly =) )

Another thing that would be great on a site devoted to mapping would be a venue for distributing information on servers that run custom maps. Be it a forum, or something more elaborate. I assume that most of us mappers and modders are at the very least 'part time' players and I would hope, that most of us enjoy good, fun custom maps. However, its not easy to find custom maps on servers, nor is it easy to attract players to servers running custom maps. Some method of ditributing information on servers that often run custom maps, or to let people know when a server not dedicated to customs will be running certain custom maps would be very cool to me. I love mapping, but even cooler then appreciating your map, or someone else looking at it and appreciating it, is just watching other people play on it and enjoy it. To me, thats what they are made for, to be played. The last couple weeks, Ive had 6-10 people running around on my rail-station map on a few different nights. Not only is it great fun to have people playing it, but its very informative to see the map in full combat mode. The sounds, the constant movement and gunfire as people wage war, and most of all the heat of battle, really show how the map is flowing, and how it is not. hehe but I have digressed...

=)

well, we ought to get the layout done first.

hey surg, create a vote with all the rainbow colors and we'll decide from there.

I have PA and I like the action but after a while you tend to miss AA. The game play is fun but it gets boring after a while because of the jungle and always boring villages. Online play has been updated a lot since AA but the main dissapointment is they don't have freeze tag and liberation. :(

They gotta leave that up to the modders. :( :( :(

even without nuke? if you know how to use Nuke it doesn't mean you know PHP. no way. PHP is a programming language, that nuke was programmed in. it's like saying "I know Microsoft Word so I know C++".

:D

PhP isnt nearly as complicated as C++ tho.

PHP is just an enhanced version of html, I like that analogy M@rine..lol

I also like the green & black here at .map! its easy on the eye. 8-)

BTW- Where is this server located?

He said he knows PHP.

Without regards to Nuke (that is made in PHP).

So I'd say m4rine claims to know MORE than Nuke, not just Nuke.

yea,u dont need nuke to add php to a html based web site,as long as ur web host provides a mysql database and has PHP enabled.

so when i said i know php without nuke, means i can use anything php to the page.such as a guestbokk,or a survey.u just use a serverside include code.
