I'd love to do another but nobody seemed interested in the last one.

well that's true. it was a blast for the first one (even though half our entrants blew their comps, or couldn't do it, or didn't remembe the date..) but oh well. i liekd seeing ppl get some stuff out there for releasing even if it wasn't too great because of a time limit....
anyway i hope someday someone can revive this.

i tried but oh well.
btw have we ever gotten any of the other entrants maps from second comp? that's waaaaaaaay old.

about everyone who was doing these competions is in .mdt so I doubt this is going anywhere...but i could be wrong.

I've got a suggestion... After the extensive bombing of Dresden: the city was left as a totally bombed out skeleton-like lanscape of crushed stone and concrete.
A truly "competetive" thing to do is to create a destroyed house that is at the same time usable in a map.
Making it destroyed is easy ( and fun! ), but to create a destroyed building that also blocks the view in an efficient way is a bit harder. And not using a million brushes to create the proper look of a destroyed building is also a challenge.
I made a simple map of inner city Dresten, but with simple box houses. They are all 5 floors and totally intact.
The challenge would be to take one of the ( around 6 ) prefab buildings and bomb the hell out of them.
Does this sound at all interesting?

true !! but since the mapping part is alittle inactive .there is room for 1 more competetion .although i think we will start mapping by the end of this next week tops.

I like Bjarne's idea... that would be fun. Destroying always seem more fun that building

.

so take one of your 6 victims er, buildings, and make bomber planes and stuff go by dropping bombs in a cinematic style where the player is a camera watching the events? tanks and such rolling by?
very cool! good idea Bjarne (bows to Bjarne)
my vote's with this.

Nonononono!
You are going entirely from a scripting perspective there, for instance, i can hardly script a plane flyby, let alone makin a movie out of it! This is a
mapping competeition, for those who script like pondweeds, like me

. So maybe just the aftermath...

Sounds fun

... out of curiousity, do the current (undestroyed) buildings block view in an effecient way? If they do, this mapping comp could be a hands-on vis exercise

Right now, they are nicely textured boxes that reach the skybox, so currently they are the best VIS blockers money can buy
