COMP problems here too

after having too much windows problems i thought i should reinstall windows after a clean format.

so i did reformat, and started the install. every thing normal until i get to a certain point in the setup where i get the all famous blue screen of death. with an error saying
IRQL_Not_equal_or_less
i restarted and tried again, however the comp froze in the setup this time
after several other attempts i got PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

and it keeps going on with wierd errors
i unplugged all secondary stuff (that isnt needed to boot) and started up again .

half way i got an error in one of the files !!
im sure the CD is ok cause its almost superclean.
anyways, i changed it with another copy and even changed the cdrom . changed the ram chip(i have only 1) and the vga card .i tried flashing the bios and clearing the CMOS settings .

none of these worked no matter how much i tried.

if any1 knows what to do please tell me, im so desperate. this is my main comp we are talking about here, with all my stuff on it. im now using a p3 800 which is starting to get on my nerves (and this damn keyboard too)

only this i can say is

1. is there a comp shop around your area? weird errors lke these may be able to be repaired by pros

2. how is it that you reformatted and still have stuff on it? extra drive? if so then might as well plug it into another one of you 9 comps.

3. make absolutely sure that the disk is clean and not melted in the sun or something.

other than that....

Make sure u don't have conflicting IRQ's setup.

Make sure u don't have conflicting IRQ's setup.
its hard to imagine what is causing a conflict with almost nothing connected to the comp !!

ive removed anything that isnt needed for boot and replaced most of the stuff that is needed (except motherboard) .
1. is there a comp shop around your area? weird errors lke these may be able to be repaired by pros
either the shops around me dont have "pro's" or they have pro's who put up some nice price tags.
and ive had my share of trouble with comps to know my way around them so ive tried all possible solutions
2. how is it that you reformatted and still have stuff on it? extra drive? if so then might as well plug it into another one of you 9 comps.
i have drive c (for windows XP only) drive d(for win9x) and the rest in drive E.
so when i need to reformat i only format the specific drive that has the problems. in this case it was C .
3. make absolutely sure that the disk is clean and not melted in the sun or something.
yeah, most probably. how did i miss that  .

after several other tries i finally managed to persuade the stup to continue one step forward until it finally installed the damn thing. however now it auto-reboots whenever it feels like it. so the comp isnt in a usable condition yet. and moreover, the file allocation tables on the drive were corrupted. so the rest of the data (on drive e) is gone :x  :x  .
the most thing im pissed about is my downloads. they were more than 1 gb of stuff across the ages. and dloaded on my 56kbs !!!

Does ur video card have a IRQ assigned to it?
Does ur hard drive have a IRQ assigned to it?
etc....

Hmmmm, guess u couldnt have a conflict. :?
IRQ lines are used for.

IRQ Number Typical Use Description
IRQ 0 System timer This interrupt is reserved for the internal system timer. It is never available to peripherals or other devices.
IRQ 1 Keyboard This interrupt is reserved for the keyboard controller. Even on devices without a keyboard, this interrupt is exclusively for keyboard input.
IRQ 2 Cascade interrupt for IRQs 8-15 This interrupt cascades the second interrupt controller to the first.
IRQ 3 Second serial port (COM2) The interrupt for the second serial port and often the default interrupt for the fourth serial port (COM4).
IRQ 4 First serial port (COM1) This interrupt is normally used for the first serial port. On devices that do not use a PS/2 mouse, this interrupt is almost always used by the serial mouse. This is also the default interrupt for the third serial port (COM3).
IRQ 5 Sound card This interrupt is the first choice that most sound cards make when looking for an IRQ setting.
IRQ 6 Floppy disk controller This interrupt is reserved for the floppy disk controller.
IRQ 7 First parallel port This interrupt is normally reserved for the use of the printer. If a printer is not being used, this interrupt can be used for other devices that use parallel ports.
IRQ 8 Real-time clock This interrupt is reserved for the system's real-time clock timer and can not be used for any other purpose.
IRQ 9 Open interrupt This interrupt is typically left open on devices for the use of peripherals.
IRQ 10 Open interrupt This interrupt is typically left open on devices for the use of peripherals.
IRQ 11 Open interrupt This interrupt is typically left open on devices for the use of peripherals.
IRQ 12 PS/2 mouse This interrupt is reserved for the PS/2 mouse on machines that use one. If a PS/2 mouse is not used, the interrupt can be used for other peripherals, such as network card.
IRQ 13 Floating point unit/coprocessor This interrupt is reserved for the integrated floating point unit. It is never available to peripherals or other devices as it is used exclusively for internal signaling.
IRQ 14 Primary IDE channel This interrupt is reserved for use by the primary IDE controller. On systems that do not use IDE devices, the IRQ can be used for another purpose.
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE channel This interrupt is reserved for use by the secondary IDE controller.

ggrrrrr @ lizardkid

i havent assigned any IRQ to anything so its all automatic. and it used to work fine like that for almost a year now . but atm all my focus has been shifted to trying to recover the data on my hdd so the MB problem will have to be dealt with later

i used to have 3 drives. C (windows xp only) D (any other backup OS,which was used as storage then) E (main storage of all the things i want)

so, after i tried to install windows on drive C with the freaky MB and finally it installed. somehow the hdd got corrupted (not directly after it,and i dont know what caused it)

so drive C is ok with windows xp on it and it loads fine. drive D and E are totally corrupted. on opening windows xp the checkdisk says that they are a non-windows xp disk. after loading when i try to get through from my computer it says that the drive isnt formatted now and asks for a format.

i tried using checkdisk to fix drive D and test with it,so it started saying things like

Code: Select all

deleting orphan file (filename)
truncating crosslinked file
invaled entry deleted
and stuff like it
after it was done, i opened the drive to find it totally empty (but openable)

later somehow the drive was corrupted again :?

when i try DOS drive E isnt recognised as a drive while drive D says seek error

on partition magic both drives are read and it is said how much free space and data is on each drive meaning there is still something working correctly.
however i cant browse through it and when i try the built in error check it says i have several of these errors befre quiting (due of many of them)

Code: Select all

the fat copies dont match
and invalid entries deteced
so i have halted any attempts now. i tried to use one recovery program but it froze, will try another soon but i really need help for this

all my mapping stuff is on there, all my favourites are there, links ,music, games ,dloads ......................................... etc

any help would be greatly appreciated

errrm, thats the easy (and very expensive) way out. i was thinking more of a free way or something close to it. at max. i would replace the MB.
oh and transfer all of yer stuff that u want to save on a zip disk
i dont have any stuff now  . i have other pcs to thats why i have net access.

malfunctioning memory (?)

The IRQL error doesnt sound familiar but the I've seen the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA before. In the middle of a game my comp froze and at boot time different blue screen errors showed up like PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA and UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.
At first hunch I was sure it had something to do with my hd, so I had it checked for errors at a friend's. Everything worked fine.

After lots of searching I found that it probably had to do with a bad memory chip. "Bad memory can manifest itself in anything from frequent error messages to your system simply not starting". So I took out the memory and stuck in an old chip. The errors were all gone. Maybe you can borrow some memory from a friend and see if that helps.

actually i had a few ram problems before with an older computer, so i was sort of familiar with the errors and technique. but i guess thats what threw me off cause i did all the precautionary measures and the problem still didnt go away. the problem appears to be in the motherboard cause i have tried 3 different ram chips but no success. it might be the ram controller on the MB. would cause the same effect i suppose :?
