I got a new router todayand have no experience with it, it'sinstalled and all the stuff has been putted in (IP, network etc.) everything is good.

But I got a problem, I can't host anymore by using internet, I 'can' host, but players are unable to join, what must I do? must I open network gates?

and owyea, my gamespy arcade doesn't work very well, I think I also need to open gates for it, can someone help me plz with this stuff?

i have this same problem and are fixing it now, this'll be long but here we go..

the router acts as the informant for all internet progs and sites and servers to deal with and send data too, so instead of going to the computer data will be directed at the router, which will then figure out which computer wanted it and send it to that one.

trouble it, your computer is sending it's internal (it's machin, the actual CPU)'s ip address to the server. and clients sending to router etc.

the router says "oops, this ip isnt me." and disregards it. sending errors to you and the other guy.

so, what you'll need to do is tell the router to send all things regarding the internal ip address (your CPU) through this cable to this comp. each router hasa built-in configuration 'web page' where all you need to do is type in the ip to the router and type in teh username and password (varies on your router model and company) then find the correct setting to cahnge to make ips addresses go to yuor comp..

hopefully you still have your manual. look for something liek configuring the router or something. it'll give oyu and ip to type in and password and username (mine is admin/admin) and it'll forward you to the router.

exact settings vary so you may need to call a local comp store or summat.

part of my training course is programming routers and programmable switches. and i tell you there are a zillion of commands which do different things, but unless you are willing to get a headache to learn what u want to do. get a pro to do it, although i doubt if you would like that
are u sure it isnt a firewall issue (router-side,or comp-side)?

I have a D-Link (DI-604)router that can be configured via a webpage/interface.

I guess the first two ports listed are the most important, so maybe its enough to forward them to be able to host.

Should be the inside IP of the PC you want to be the host... depends on your lan settings what the actual number is. You only need to open port 12203 (udp) to be able to host

To find your computers IP address, Run the command prompt (Start > Run > enter in "command"(no "s)) Then in the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" (no "s)

There it should tell you all you need to know (and dont need to) about your LAN/WAN/Internet settings. Where it says IP Address... I wont insult your inteligence

what kind of router is it? If its D-Link then i cant help ya much there.
If its Linksys then i can only offer u one idea that i high DONT reccomend but can be a last resort... A very last resort.

go to DMZ Host

type in your computers LAN IP:
ex. 100
ex. 101
ex. 102
ex. 103
and so on and so forth

press apply

Congratulations, you have now opened up your computer to every possible hacker because now you have no firewall. That is why i sont reccomend this unless your dying to host or are feeling technologically suicidal. This dosnt just open up a couple ports, it open ALL of them thus making it impossible for a hacker to not get you. PLZ DO NOT DO THIS FOR MORE THAN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. i know it sounds lame but as soon as you press apply you are at high risk. I dont even know why i posted this.... ah well, use the info WISELY, use to not let anyone trick you into doing it. there i taught you 1 small way not to get hacked... or to invite everyone in to gets ur info... right... well im out.
