Caulk vs, Nodraw

Hi, I'm sure this has already been covered but I couldn't find it.

I've got entities leaking through caulk and I wondered if nodraw will imitate caulk in that the face is not drawn but stop the leak. Is that possible?

Thanks.

A brush with caulk generates the wall but has an invisible texture.
A brush with Nodraw leaves everything out.

I thought caulk would remove the face (caulked) of a brush in the game.

No that is what nodraw does, hence the name...no draw. :D
Try it out, make a wall with caulk and no draw and feel the magic of the invisible wall.

There is a texture called "common/blank_lightmap" that looks just like caulk in the editor. But, it does not work like caulk. If you have that texture in your map, replace it with "common/caulk" texture.

Sorry tltrude, are you saying that common/blank_lightmap will stop the leak?

What sort of entities are leaking?

No, they look the same. He is saying you may have used common/blank_lightmap by accident instead of common/caulk

the proper caulk is the 2nd one down, to make it clearer. the wrong one is first, and the rest. ;)

I'm positive it is caulk but I'll check anyway. Although, that brings me onto another question, what is the difference between all of the caulks?

Balr14: the leaking entities are mg42 bipods i believe.

Answering that would make up a complete tutorial. Not a bad idea actually :)
Anybody got a resource that explains caulks and stuff?

Here is a small start I made: http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/%7Erjukanpr ... page=Caulk

Anyone is very welcome to share the work of adding more clips / caulks.

A brush with Nodraw leaves everything out.
So when you use caulk it does calculate with VIS, with No Draw it does not.

Well my friend I tell you both ones will make invisible wall!! I used to agree with you until I got told about the common/blank_lightmap texture.
I was using that one by mistake instead of caulk!
If you still see your surfaces textured with caulk in your game, you have to replace the texture. You will see compile time will decrease, also. It happened to me 2 days ago
