I thought I would share my most current project with .map. I have made a couple of custom maps now but I think its time I bust out something decent. I have choosen to make a map of the Bridge at Remagen. The map will include the full bridge across the Rhine River. There will be a couple of normal houses around the bridge as well as the two towers on both ends. One side will lead into a mountain where there will be a large tunnel, not very accessable...probably just the first few meters or something. The other end will enter into the outskirts of the small town. As far as scripting goes I would like include such features as:

1) Planes flybys dropping rockets which hit random buildings or areas on the map, then causing the ground to shake using the earthquake.scr.

2) When a Player falls into the river I would like to have it so when they first fall in there head is above water but after sometime while trying to walk to shore have them sink and lose health.

3) Maybe an Objective

Some History:

The Bridge was built was built during World War One. around 1918. It was built by the germans for the purpose of moving troops and supplies to the westernfront. The bridge when built held two railroad tracks which sat side by side. During World War Two the Bridge was captured by a small advance party of the 9th US Tank Division. Over the next 10 days thousands of troops and supplies crossed the Bridge into Germany. The destruction of the Bridge was ordered to stop the US advancement. Hitler tried many means to destroy the bridge including railroad artillary guns and scuba divers. All his attempts failed and Hitler ordered to attack the bridge with V2 rockets. All attempts to hit the bridge directly failed but the tremors caused by close impacts from the rockets caused the Bridge to finally fall into the Rhine on March 16, 1945.

Looks sweet indeed. Just remember playability: its easy to get lost in realism and produce a terrible map that is no fun to play ( Trust me, I've done it, and its really no fun to put in a lot of time when nobody uses the result in the end  ).

Well my plan is to map it as accurate as I can but with my own touches here and there for that reason. If I made it strictly realistic than it would be a bridge...from one end to another. Im going to add some things around each side...walkways around the towers and small buildings to the sides. On each span(the part that goes into the water in the middle to support the bridge...maybe its called something else) in the water Im going to add something so the player can chill there if they want...maybe an underground pipe connecting each span so there is more than one way across. Most likely this will turn into a sniping map. Most maps with Bridges turn into sniping like Eye of the Needle and CrossRoads. Ill post some more screens with progress.

Thanks for the feedback too.

Make sure to add some clutter and debris on the bridge (crates, cars, etc.) so the players CAN use cover and actually try crossing it. Another trick is to make the bridge pretty long so that the players cant see from one end to the other, forcing them to cross.

It looks great so far, and I'm excited to see how it's going to turn out. :)

Since crossing the Rhine was such a big issue, maybe you can make one of the objectives to simply have players from one team make it across to a designated area while the other team tries to eliminate them. Or perhaps you would havee to blow up important supplies or something.
