.Map :: MoHAA Mapping

i have been messing around in mohradiant for a month or two on a map i have created. well i wouldn't call it a map it is just a junker that i use to experiment with all the neat stuff i learn from the tut's on this site and from this forum. it is just for learning purposes to learn all of the trials and tribulations of learning level design before i start on a real project and get almost done and screw up somehow.

for the most part i have been successful, but one error i keep getting is the "leaked" message while compiling. this time i got "entity reached from the outside-no filling" it is the second time i got it.

i tried the "pointfile" in the file menu in radiant to try and find the leak. but the red line only point off into space!! doesn't touch anything in my map, only to an arbitrary point in my map.

i even deleted the brushes that were near the red line and no luck. it still pointed to the same spot on my map. with nothing near it!! very very strange.

if anyone could tell me what the red line's function is, and what it points at will be very helpful. or if you know what the message means that i get when i compile would also be appreciated.

The red line is drawn from any of your entities to the 'void' or the other way around. The void is the area outside your map. In a good map, the void should be sealed of completely by structural brushes. If for some reason you can see the area outside your map, for example because the brushes that make up the wall of your map don't fit exactly, you have a so-called 'leak'. The disadvantage of these leaks is that the compiler cannot perform visibility checks, which will result in a poor framerate.

Deleting brushes will never patch a leak.

i completely understand what you are saying.
i checked all of my skyboxes for leaks, none. i erased my door and a wall and for some strange reason, no more leaks, and the compiler created a .prt file.
i also checked to see if they(door and wall) were passing under my LOD terrain brush, but they weren't. very very strange.

after i noticed that the problem was gone i went back and readded my door, origin for door, and the wall i previously deleted(note: i changed nothing else about the map). it worked fine.
oh, how i noticed the problem was gone was i started the "q3map -gamedir c:\<gamedir> c:\<gamedir>\<mapsourc>\<mymap.map>" and it did not say "leaked". so i knew it was fine.

there must be some tiny detail i am doing to get a leaked message. i will keep investigating and let you guys know. if anyone else is experiencing this please let me know.
