Industrial strength quality map release

Post by Bjarne BZR »

A while ago I engaged in a rather ambitious project to produce a map list for a MOH:AA league ( by www.Game-Hosting.com ) with custom maps. After an extensive evaluation of a large amount of really great maps, we arrived at these three: Canal, Pipeline and Stalingrad1943. And even if these were all great maps they did not ( as is often the case with custom maps ) measure up to the quality of the stock maps ( they all had an array of small errors ). But we managed to get the orignal *.MAP files for all of them and started testing-fixing-testing-fixing them. We feel they now are of very high quality and balance, and together create a nice balance in play types among themseves.

But as we did not manage to get them accepted as legal additions to MOH:AA, the league arranger decided it would not be a good idea to continue. We will try again at the start of 2005, but for now I just want you guys to have access to these exelent maps. If you have any preconceptions about these maps: forget that, because they are fixed. REALLY mean clan-players has spared no punches in telling me annoying bad or unbalanced in these maps: And all these complaints has been attended to.

So here they are

OBJ Canal v1.3, original map by Flying Sheep.

OBJ Pipeline v1.3, original map by TopTiger.

OBJ Stalingrad1943 v1.2, original map by Drecks.

Also to fix the advantage that the Axis has in the stock map "The Hunt", we made a small server side script to move the Allies spawns a few meters forward, and the front 4 Axis spawns backwards. This creates a more even balance, and more fun gameplay:
The hunt spawn fix.

Its been a hard time ( 2 month ) of testing, bartering, editing, thinking, slashing, designing and mapping in general. I'd like to give a big hand to everyone that has given feedback to me during this time. And above all I would like to thank the original map designers: Flying Sheep ( The Canal ), Drecks ( Stalingrad1943 ) and TopTiger ( Pipeline ) for creating a great base for me to work from and trusting me and giving me free hands to edit their already exelent work.

For detailed info on the changes, read the readme files.

Oh, I'm going on vacation in an hour or so, so I can't reply to any Q:s you may have until 1:st of January 2005. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

i've heard vague hints of this sort of thing on Rjuken and your posts here, and i've got to say, i've tried these maps out before, and they are censored excellent! i'll say they measure up to stock maps. with the additions, you'll have really, really high quality maps. Canal especially.
