MAX_PATCH_PLANES error while loading my map

hi.. like the title said .. while iam loading my map it shuts down to main menu and in the console its says : ERROR : MAX_PATCH_PLANES .. :cry:

Hmm :? doesn't sound familiar :? tried it with low curve detail yet?

I had this once, i found a bunck of patch mesh outside the skybox... :?

Check about for patches...

Uhm.... in your radiant they should look red (i think - long since i have used that view)... if anything is outside the skybox - delete it :)

Did you use the UNDO function in Radiant? It does the strangest things. Once it has duplicated all the brushes in my map. I don't use that anymore.

MAX_PATCH_PLANES means you have more than is allowed, for ALL meshes. Also, using terrain patches > 512 can cause unpredictable results, like that error. You can use patch mesh for terrain; I often do. But, you best reduce complexity or you can generate a ton of face planes. Patch mesh deforms much more than terrain mesh. You can get several hundred face planes from a 3 x 3 patch mesh. Terrain mesh appears to be an attempt at improving LOD terrain.


My humble advice would be to take out all terrain and patches(back up your 1st .map) and see if it runs ok then....its going to be a process of trying to track down the guilty mesh/terrain.
