2 skies?

this is a really odd idea i came up with that would allow unlimited space in one level, but increase loading time..

and it's only an idea

what if you had 2 skyboxes on top of each other, since there's no cap to the Z limit, you could make a map, have a tricky trigger_teleport to the other sky, then the first sky is sealed off and you're in the other level..

would it work? and if it did, would it be a good idea?

have a tricky trigger_teleport to the other sky, then the first sky is sealed off and you're in the other level..
Fungus, i think he means this:
You're playing in skybox1, here is an easy TOP VIEW example:

Code: Select all

_________skybox1____
|                    W ||
|                    A ||
|                    L ||
|                    L ||
|      o - you)         x - Teleport (doorway)
|                    W ||
|                    A ||
|                    L ||
|___________________ L ||

_________skybox2_______
||W                    |
||A                    |
||L                    |
||L                    |
x - (Teleport)         |
||W                    |
||A                    |
||L                    |
||L____________________|
This would be skybox 1... underneath the other skybox... once the person went in the doorway (marked x).... he would be unknowingly teleported to the skybox2 (above skybox1) which would continue the building and the WALL would appear to be the same wall, just on the other side... this way.... if that map above is completely filling the Gride in XY, the skybox above the one you're in will provide TWICE as much distant XY...

Sorry, kind of confusing., but the play DOES NOT know he teleports... he believes he's just continuing the same way, same level...

exactly Cheetohs. <3 to those awesome ASCII art... :)

it would lengthen the map life, but if you do more than 2 skyboxes it'll probably take as long as a MOHPA SP map to load.

EDIT:
And what up with callin me DUNGUS?
oops, hehee. F is to the right of D on my keyboard... but it is somehow strangely fitting.. :P

I'd say there is the same max dimension in z-axis like in x- or y-axis (-8000 to 8000), so there's not unlimited space. Nevertheless, taking a map height of 2000, u could do 8 maps of 16000x16000x2000 units. Ought to be enough :P
Btw, I got a nice (imho, I made it... :wink: ) teleporter in the recycling bin 8-)

i get it now... you really do have unlimited space... unless youre doing a bulding thats 16000x16000 and has 1000000 stories... :roll: :roll: :roll:

and remind me to call mess up your nickname.. *cough*gizzard kid*cough**cough* :wink:
