What programs do you use? TeamSpeak, Ventrillo?

Last night was a sad one indeed. Our clan TS is open to the public we run MOHAA, CoD, Joint Ops and various other games and servers. some jackhole comes in and takes advantage of our open door policy and bans everyone from TeamSpeak. Luckily our admins where able to resolve the issue within a matter of minutes and ban the moron who did this.

Sad part is i spearhead a team to find out how the admin passwords where cracked and see if there is a way to resolve this security flaw. All i can say when i have to travel to other forums i really apprecaite comin back here. It reminds me there are sane people in the world. Anyhow after reading for hours i start to realize no matter what the developers are saying there is no real solution to a problem. The only precation we didnt take and it appears now we are going to have reverse this decision is to is allow the public to join our lobby channel without needing a password.

My question to you all is what in game chat programs do you use? Also have you ever experianced something like this with these various programs?

My clan uses ventrilo. We opened our vnetrilo server to the public over a month ago, and so far, we have had no one abuse the privelege.

I run a TS server now and then... one day I was in it alone when an unknown guest entered he asked me to do a certain keyboard shortcut... I don't remind the shortcut but I do know using it would have granted the guest certain channel rights with which he could have easily taken control.

No need to mention I didn't execute the shortcut as I didn't recognize this person...

Yeah this mystery person didnt ask anything special just hoped in and we were gone.... most disturbing. The only thing i can think of is that he hacked the passwords.

TS is known for being able to obtain SA quite easily. Heck, a cocky friend of mine new how to do it and did it to our ts (he was in a different clan) all the time.

Also be aware that one person can have many accounts on the one ts server... it could have been an angered clan member that had SA on a different account.

I myself wont put up with the public for the simple fact that it only brings in roaming teens who's only goal is to annoy and piss off you in the server (playing music, annoying sounds, simply speaking, etc.). So my ts is a closed-door policy... I don't really see any reason to have it open.

my clan uses TS, but i prefer Ventrilo, much better sound, smaller package, easier use.

i've never heard of such a thing, it's always fine when i'm on.

We use TS, but, why do you have an open server then?
we just have one with a pass, and people we need, know the pass.
And you don't have prob's with hackers and such, right?

and if you have an 'open' TS server, it costs you more money then a private server. except if you host it yourself ofcourse.

Are both of these internet use only? And if so is there anything that can be used for lan parties?

No problems setting any of them up on a LAN that I know of.

i use TS
to stop anyone from banning or granting themselves channel admin,is go to admin panel from the web based IP.then tere is settings you can set,un check the option to allow guest to do anything except grant them voice,if ur even that nice :P
i havent had any problems yet with TS.yet then again even if someone did i would just go to the admin link and reset the TS.

and yes,we have a channel of our own of course wit it passworded.
i think the big thing is the admin settings for TS,the default settings usually allow guest to grant themselves privlages.
