my english is too bad to tell me what ur sub-division might be. but if u were talking about the mountains, why not do a custom skybox texture for those mountains further away and some patch meshes for the closer rock formations.Balr14 wrote:So far, everything I try turns out looking like a damn sub-division.
over worked
Maps that get over worked end up on the shelf. Perhaps you should just use a war ravaged Transylvanian village.

I think he already used a special texture for some of the mountains in the back (which look fine). But perhaps it's an idea to use a somewhat more gloomy skybox. I've seen that movie and some pictures of that village and there are extremely high mountains, in fact the whole setting is extreme. Anyway here are some skies I found that might fit that setting.

Here's another idea, what about making just a small section of that mountain valley but with higher mountains so you can't see the vast surroundings? That way you can close the sides with inaccesible houses built against the slopes.

I'm OK with the mountains. It's the buildings that I can't get right (that's why you don't see any). Check this image out very closely and you will notice the very complicated architecture. There isn't a straight line in the place. All the buildings have multiple pitched and angled roofs that lean outward, and that's just for starters: http://home.wi.rr.com/balr14/vanhell3.jpg
Ooops, sorryBalr14 wrote:I'm OK with the mountains. It's the buildings that I can't get right (that's why you don't see any).
The pics look mouth watering for a mapper. I think u could create a rather similar visual effect of chaotic architecture by placing the buildings just at 45? steps at slightly different height levels. Then not the complete buildings would have to be so awry and skew. If u did rather clean buildings and attach some detail brushes afterwards to make it look warped, this ought to be fine.Balr14 wrote:Check this image out very closely and you will notice the very complicated architecture. Yep!
The von hellsing map is the 3rd map of the Mayhem mod. I think I may have posted the first two already, but they are Tombstone (OK Corral) and Temple of Kali:

They aren't done, either... I tend to jump around a lot because I get frustrated working on the same map all the time.
