Editing Stock Maps

Well i tried editing a few stock maps.... but.... wen i tried to run it... it got screwed...

can someone please explain steps in converting from .bsp to .map and then explain steps for compiling the map back.

decompiling is mainly for checking and seeing what they did and how they made the map.when u decompile,you lose too much in the proccess.like triggers textures and some other things,not to mention it duplicate textures and planes.in other words,its not worth decompiling :(
