This is an excerpt directly from the map’s history section located in the readme file.
“This map is inspired by a real WW2 operation executed in
February 1943 called Operation Gunnerside.
Operation Gunnerside: 6 Norwegian elite soldiers in English
uniforms parachuted over Hardangervidda, joined with the
scouts, reached Våer, and approached the factory along the
railroad tracks, an area that had no mines. While the rest
kept guard, the demolitions team entered the heavy water
plant and destroyed the heavy water cells. 900 kg of heavy
water was lost (including production losses). Afterwards the
scouts remained on the mountain, while the demolitions team
went on skies into Sweden..”
That well defined the historical part of the map.
This map is an outside map, there are winding paths going through rolling hills in the snowy Rjukan, Norway. Trail markers will lead the Allies to the objective: Get past the Axis patrols to the factory to the south. This map offers several machinegun nests. There are some ruins for you to wait and ambush people. Also some large crates give you some cover in a few spots.
Presentation / Technical
This map features some well laid out LOD terrain. Good placing of LOD is critical to prevent a loss of performance, and to eliminate those pesky long range snipers. Also the well placed player clips eliminated those people try to get somewhere you don’t want them to be. Also placing the trigger to kill people that get under the terrain, whether on purpose or by accident, was a brilliant idea! Also there is absolutely great FPS on this map!
Playability / Game Flaws
There really aren’t any flaws that I could find, except for the one known bug, where sometimes grenades and bazooka shells will go through the terrain and disappear. This has been documented in the readme file:
“Sometimes grenades fall through the terrain and disappear
without a trace :S”
Conclusion
In conclusion I do believe this was a well thought out and done map. It has great playability for the whole range of weapons. Excellent performance, playability, and good fun all around make this a good map! Used with the "scout" modifacation included it doubles the fun!
