Hey guys !
I know people hardly look here anymore but I've seen some oldschool mappers still look ocassionally so decided to post this here as well.
There is a new MoH:AA Database around, probably the biggest ever.
It currently holds 1940 AA/SH/BT maps, including all gametypes (even single player maps) and also total conversion maps.
We tried to add as many info as we could, might make it look a bit messy on some maps. We now added all the maps we could find, all including screenshots, we just need to add a bit more info, hopefully with the help of others.
We want to keep MoH:AA alive and let the public view all the beautiful maps that some amazing mappers made over the years.
Maps that were made for testing a specific object (moving belt, lifts, elevators, lavalamp etc.) are also included and can be found by typing in the map search bar ''test'' or ''tutorial''. Obv. these include the .map files as well.
I hope some of the mappers could also take a look and see if all their maps are on there, or if you see a map which is yours but doesn't show a creator (wasn't able to find the creator for some maps). Because I'd love to add more maps and make the information more complete !
Have a browse and any feedback is always appreciated
Some members have requested me to reset all passwords, because they have been compromised by the public dump of the hacker. I thought that was a good idea, so everyone's got a new password for free. Unfortunately you forgot what it was, so please use the I forgot my password link to re-activate your account. Then pick a new password (best not the one you used before the attack).
Yup, we're back after a nasty attack kept us down for nearly a week.
Bad news first
Unfortunately, the attack has some permanent consequences:
Threads started after Feb 6, 2011 are lost. However, I was able to recover all individual posts up to the day of attack. These posts have been merged into a single 'Lost + found' thread in each forum, which means that at least all content is still accessible. The post chronology is not necessarily correct (but makes sense in many cases).
Any private messages sent after Feb 6, 2011 are lost.
The attacker has put the user account information from our database on the web. See below ("Is my identity stolen?") whether this has consequences for you.
Is my identity stolen?
The attacker has placed confidential information stored in our database on the web, including e-mail addresses and so-called MD5-hashes of login passwords. It is possible but non-trivial to recover the original password from such a hash. I'm not keen to put a link here to the web site that hosts the leaked data, but if you want to know exactly what information of yours has been disclosed, e-mail me and I will show you. Furthermore I recommended everyone to change the password you use for .MAP. If you use the same password for other websites/services, I recommend changing your password there as well.
But wait, there's also some positive things
I was able to identify vulnerabilities in the site software and fixed them. Duh, that's a bit late, but anyway
No tutorials or map reviews were harmed in this attack.
We now have all new, shiny forum software with a new look and lots of new features (I presume). One of the cool things is that you can now upload attachments to your posts. I'm sure there are many more amazing new features but I couldn't be bothered to list them .
A final apology for the downtime, loss of post cohesion and user accounts and the fact that your account info got into the wrong hands. This is a done deal, there's nothing I can do about these things anymore.
Now, show us what you've been working on while .MAP was down
Hey guys, a friend of mine who's been running the Polish MoH community website MoHCenter since 2003 has just gone international by opening an English version of the website, and he's looking for staff. If you're interested in becoming involved in exchange for free games, beta keys, gadgets etc., head on to www.moh-center.com and apply!
This has been known behind the scenes for a little while, but today I have to bring everybody the sad news: we are about to be closed down.
The reason is that IGN/Gamespy are terminating the hosted site service we enjoy. The closing date is August 31st, 2009.
It remains uncertain if .Map still has a future. Today I have requested a complete database export which, provided we can find a suitable host, can (in theory) be used to reinstate .Map (in its current form) at a different web address.
For the moment I cannot promise anything, as the website is unfortunately not easily moved.
IGN tech support has advised me to close down the forums from now onwards, so no posts will be lost in a migration. However I prefer to leave them open as long as possible, please bear in mind posts made after *now* might be lost in the migration process.
Finally a major word of thanks to all our members that have made .Map a pleasant and helpful site for its 7 years and 3 months of existence. Not bad by any account .
It's been a great time for me personally, I hope everybody enjoyed it as much. Thank you!!
